Burke Mountain Elementary School Funded
Wesbild is thrilled with today’s funding announcement of Smiling Creek Elementary by the Honourable Mike Bernier, Minister of Education, MLA Linda Reimer, Mayor Richard Stewart of the City of Coquitlam, and Chair Judy Shirra of School District 43.
“This is great news for our community,” said Kevin Layden, President and CEO of Wesbild Holdings Ltd. “The funding of Smiling Creek Elementary was the result of true partnership between multiple levels of government and the entire Burke Mountain community. We were pleased to play our part in making today a reality.”
The 3,700-square-metre two-story school will provide 430 student spaces (80 kindergarten and 350 elementary), as well as a Neighbourhood Learning Centre. Students, families and community members of Burke Mountain will benefit from this new school due to its multi-use model – school, joint-use field, and park.
Wesbild is a proud partner in the school land sites agreement announced by School District 43 in June. Wesbild also sponsors a number of community initiatives for Burke Mountain families, including the donation of $5 million towards a new turf and sports field at the future Burke Mountain secondary school site, as well as financial support for Burke school bus services, the new Coquitlam SAR Mobile Command Centre, and the Coquitlam Public Library Bus to service Burke Mountain families.
