New Parks for Burke Mountain.
The City of Coquitlam and Wesbild Holdings Ltd are pleased to announce that they have partnered to develop two new parks on Burke Mountain.
The Millard Orchard Park and Galloway Neighbourhood Park will be constructed and completed in 2011. The City of Coquitlam is funding the design, construction and equipment costs and Wesbild is providing project management and construction expertise in kind. Both parties are working jointly on the design. In addition, Wesbild has donated $50,000 to the City of Coquitlam’s Park Gift Program to provide a sport court at the Millard Orchard Park.
“These new parks demonstrate an exceptional effort by Council and Wesbild to respond to the needs of residents in this growing area of Coquitlam,” said Mayor Richard Stewart. “The amenities, design and location of these new facilities will only enhance the lifestyle our residents have come to expect. The parks will provide generations of residents with the opportunity to enjoy many outdoor activities in a clean, safe environment.”
The Millard Orchard Park will feature play equipment, sports court, picnic tables, orchard area and lawn areas. The larger Galloway Community Park will include play equipment, sports court, spray park, rain garden, tai chi circle and many grassy areas for active and passive recreation.
“Parks are a key gathering place for any community”, says Ted Ayerst, Senior Vice-President of Wesbild, “This is how neighbours get to know each other and they become the heart of the community. We are so pleased to be able to help expedite the park program on Burke Mountain.”
Construction will be beginning on both parks in the coming weeks with completion slated for late summer 2011.
